Your roof is an essential part of your home. It needs to be in good condition to avoid water leaks or seepage, rodent or vermin infestation, or fungi and mould growth.

A roof that’s in poor condition needs to be renovated quickly. In most cases, opting for a more expensive yet more durable roofing system is the best option for your home. Not only will your roof last longer, but it could also increase your home’s value.

A sustainable roof

When it comes to roofing and renovation, asphalt shingles are very popular. However, while they’re inexpensive, they aren’t the strongest or most durable roofing material.

Metal roofs, like Decra tile roofs, are more durable than asphalt shingle roofs. As a result, they’re well suited to withstand Quebec’s snow, ice, strong winds and rain.

Therefore, metal roofs will deal with Quebec’s at-times harsh weather conditions without getting damaged.

Decra roofing

Decra tiles are 4.3′ x 1.3′ panels made up of seven tiles each. Made of galvanized steel and an epoxy primer, Decra tiles are coated with a mineral crush and an acrylic resin varnish. In addition to being very resistant, this coating is available in multiple colours.

Decra tile roofs are known to be durable and may last up to 100 years. They can also withstand winds of up to 250 km/h. If you live near the ocean, you won’t have to worry about salt air damaging your roof over the years because Decra roofing is also salt air resistant.

The cost of a Decra roof

As mentioned above, Decra metal tiles are more expensive than asphalt shingles. For an average-sized bungalow, an asphalt shingle roof will cost approximately $5,000, while a Decra tile roof will cost $12,000 to $15,000.

However, the investment is well worth it; you won’t need to re-roof in the future as Decra is very durable. On the other hand, asphalt shingles may require more maintenance over the years, and re-roofing will be necessary in most cases.
